Brooker determined to net starting role

Doncaster striker Steve Brooker is aiming to register his first start for the club now he is finally nearing full fitness following his injury problems. The 29-year-old has yet to begin a match for Rovers since joining the South Yorkshire side two years ago, having been plagued with persistent knee and ankle trouble, and only made his debut as a substitute in the win over Preston on the opening day of this season. Since then the former Port Vale and Bristol City man has featured a further seven times off the bench as he attempts to regain his match sharpness. Brooker told the Sheffield Star: "It's been a long time since I last played a full game and I need to get some more minutes under my belt. I've come off the bench a few times, which is a step in the right direction, but if you add up all the time I've been out there it would probably be less than 90 minutes. "I don't mind coming off the bench - though you can be asked to play several different roles depending on the score when you come on - and I probably offer something a bit different to the other strikers. But if I am to be challenging for a start, as I say, I need more game time." Brooker is currently content to play a supporting role but has looked at the possibility of leaving on loan to get more games under his belt, adding: "That's always something that's been in the background as an option. But while ever I'm on the bench and coming on in games, I'll probably stay here."
