Boss happy with Shackell display

Shackell made his debut in the draw against Preston on Saturday after joining on a month's loan from Premier League newcomers Wolves. O'Driscoll admitted the 25-year-old did not have enough time to prepare for the game but the former Bournemouth manager was left with no choice but to hand him a start. He told the club's official website: "It's difficult being thrown in at the last minute. As it is with loan players, you sometimes only get them because the loaning team wants them to go out and play. "It's not ideal but he got better as the game went on, which is what you would expect. Wolves bought him for half a million quid so he's no mug. He gives us a lot of balance on the left-hand side. "We went into the game with two injury doubts, or three actually, with Byron (Webster) out with his ankle and Sam (Hird) and Adam (Lockwood) carrying knocks. We've got too many games coming up to try and risk it so it was an opportunity for us to bring an experienced player in."
