Tomkins makes Rams exit

James Tomkins has left Derby County and returned to West Ham United following the end of his loan deal.

The highly-rated defender made eight appearances for the Rams, who were hoping to extend his stay in the Championship.

"It's disappointing to lose James as he has done well for us since he's been here, but it goes without saying we fully respect West Ham's decision to recall him and thank Gianfranco Zola for allowing him to come to Derby in the first place," caretaker manager Chris Hutchings told the club's official website.

"He is a terrific lad and we all wish him well for the future and thank him for his contribution."
