Savage faces uncertain future

Doubts about Robbie Savage's future at Derby County have resurfaced after the former Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City midfielder was left out of the Rams' 19-man squad for the pre-season friendly against Rushden & Diamonds.

Paul Jewell also omitted Mile Sterjovski, Dean Leacock and Eddie Lewis from his squad even though they are all fully-fit.

"We brought quite a strong team," said Jewell. "We've got plenty of players at the moment and Robbie Savage's no different to anyone else. He's part of the squad."

Asked if Savage, who still has two years left on his Pride Park contract, is injured, Jewell replied: "No."

Meanwhile, former Reading and Everton midfielder John Oster has rejected a contract offer from County, with Jewell adding: "John has other irons in the fire and we'll move on."
