Sav upbeat over FA Cup woe

Derby County captain Robbie Savage believes the side can take many positives from their FA Cup fifth round 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Rams bowed out of the competition as the visitors scored a late winner and after Derby took the lead, they performed admirably throughout.

Now Savage wants the players to put their efforts into their remaining Championship fixtures and climb away from the bottom half of the table.

They have back-to-back home games coming up against Preston North End in midweek and Swansea City on Saturday and if they could get the six points on offer, the play-offs could be a realistic aim.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "We can take a lot of positives from this - we were excellent again against a Premier League side.

"Now we really must start producing against the so called lesser teams.

"Tuesday night is a massive game for us, if we can perform like we have been doing of late then we have a great chance.

"We're all upbeat and there is plenty to be positive about for Derby County and we're all looking forward to Tuesday night back at Pride Park.

"Anyone who was at the game would have struggled to tell which side was the Premier League one."
