Derby County have ended Laurent Robert's brief stay at Pride Park after cancelling the contract of the winger so that he can sign for MLS side Toronto.
The 32-year-old wideman joined the Rams on a free transfer in January but, after making just four appearances, has been allowed to leave before the end of his short-term contract.
The former Newcastle United and Portsmouth player has not started a game for the relegated Rams since the beginning of February and travelled to Canada earlier in the week for a trial.
"It didn't quite work out for Laurent here but we wish him well in the future," Derby manager Paul Jewell told his club's official website.
Former Newcastle coach John Carver is currently working at Toronto and he was delighted with the acquisition.
"I've spent a lot of time with him and I know a lot about his game," he said.
"He'll be a big asset to the team, he's got pace, his ability on free-kicks is top-class and he's a great finisher."
