Rams swoop for Griffin

Derby County manager Billy Davies still hopes to add two more new faces to his squad after landing the Portsmouth defender Andy Griffin on a three-year deal.

The 28-year-old former Stoke City and Newcastle United defender becomes the Rams' seventh signing of the summer and Davies is delighted with his latest capture.

"Andy is an excellent player, he has a calm head and a very good attitude," he told County's official website.

"Like Andy Todd he brings experience to the squad.

"I believe Andy (Griffin) has great years ahead of him. Every time I see him play he shows how consistent he is. We're very pleased to have him on board.

"We've got one or two irons in the fire and will be working hard right until the end of August to try and strengthen the squad further."

Griffin has made more than 200 League appearances for his three clubs in an 11-year professional career.
