Rams raid for Mears

Derby County captured West Ham United defender Tyrone Mears on loan minutes before the transfer deadline.

Right-back Mears is the seventh new arrival for the Rams in January, having failed to make a big impact since his £1million summer move from Preston North End.

Rams boss Billy Davies told the club's official website: "Tyrone is a very attacking full-back with excellent pace, who adds great competition to many positions in the team.

"Ideally we'd like to make this deal permanent in the summer."

Mears started his career with Manchester City, before moving to Deepdale in the summer of 2002.
