Rams delighted for Howard

Derby County boss Billy Davies hailed striker Steven Howard after his first goal for the club secured a 1-0 win at Wolves on Tuesday.

Howard joined the Rams from Luton Town in a £1million summer deal, but had failed to find the target in his first seven outings for his new club.

Davies said: "No-one deserves the goal more than Steve and the monkey is finally off his back.

"His work ethic is fantastic and he has led the line really well.

"I am delighted for him as are the lads in the dressing room. We all wanted it to happen for him."

Davies was satisfied with his side's display as they claimed just their second Championship victory of the campaign, but insisted there was still plenty of room for improvement.

He added: "We are still a long way from where we want to be and we are not going to get carried away.

"It will take us time to educate the players, but a display like that against a team at the top of the table is obviously very pleasing."
