Porter eyes festive return

Derby County striker Chris Porter hopes to return to first-team action before Christmas after having successful surgery on his hip.

The former Motherwell star has not played since March and, when the injury did not clear up as expected during the summer, he was forced to have the operation last month.

The 25-year-old told the Evening Telegraph: "It was demoralising at first but I've dealt with it now in my own head.

"I realised I had to be positive and I know I'll be back from this. It's now three weeks since the op and I've made good progress, I believe.

"I have to be on crutches for a while yet so I'm a bit limited in what I can do.

"I'm hoping, if possible, to be back a little earlier than late December. There are a lot of games over Christmas, so it would be good to be back by then.

"I'm not writing my season off by any means. I don't want to be the forgotten man."
