Pearson hits back at Davies

Derby County chairman Adam Pearson has criticised Rams manager Billy Davies for his post-match comments on Saturday evening after the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea.
Davies had said his side were not good enough to survive in the Premier League and called on the Pride Park board to back him with £40million to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.
Former Hull City chief Pearson was unimpressed with Davies' comments, saying: "It was disappointing, a very strange reaction, and I'm not quite sure why he's done that. I'm sure I'll find out the reasons at our meeting on Monday.
"We'll have a private meeting, a mature meeting. I'd rather all this was done in-house. Controversy isn't my style of doing things."
A report in a Sunday newspaper claimed a clause in his contract would see Davies pick up a £750,000 pay-off should Derby sack him, while another paper said Paul Jewell was being lined up to be the club's new boss.
However, Pearson added: "I'm not willing to discuss the manager's contract in public and I don't know where the Paul Jewell story has come from."
Davies had said after Saturday's defeat: "Anybody questioning the players' attitude, commitment and effort, should look again because I can't ask any more from these guys.
"That's not the problem. The problem we have is that we have to invest in the playing staff of this club.
"Hopefully I can see the chairman - who I've not seen in the last three weeks - and hopefully if there is any investment then it goes towards the playing staff.
"I feel sorry for the fans because they are paying their money, getting behind the club and the players, but they want to see quality on the pitch and that is something we must see now."
