Pearson delight for Davies

Derby County boss Billy Davies has revealed that he has been a long-term admirer of Stephen Pearson after completing the signing of the Celtic midfielder.

The 24-year-old moves to Pride Park in a £750,000 deal and Davies is pleased to complete the transfer, as well as that of Gary Teale from Wigan Athletic.

"They are both Scottish, which is good," he told the Rams' official website.

"But more important than that, they're good players. I know their characters and I know what they bring to the dressing room. They've been welcomed by the other players and they've settled very quickly.

"We've watched Pearson's progress with great interest and he's a player I've always admired.

"He can play central and wide in midfield and is very much capable of scoring goals. He has a great future ahead of him.

"Stephen is a great athlete and box-to-box player, very good at joining in the final third."
