New blow rocks Boertien

Derby County defender Paul Boertien faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury in the Boxing Day defeat by Wolves.

The 27-year-old left-back has sustained medial ligament damage in his right knee, having previously battled back from serious problems in both knees to resurrect his Rams career.

County boss Billy Davies told the club's official website: "He will be going for further scans and x-rays to find out the full extent of the damage.

"It is a blow for the lad and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the timescale is not too lengthy.

"One of the dangers of playing so many games in quick succession at this stage of the season is the possibility of picking up more injuries."
