McEveley set to boost Rams
13 Feb 2008 - 13:59:01
Derby County could be boosted by the quicker than expected return of injured defender Jay McEveley.
The left-back suffered what was thought to be serious knee ligament damage in the Rams' 1-0 defeat by Bolton Wanderers at the beginning of January.
McEveley was expected to miss the remainder of the season with cruciate ligament damage.
However, subsequent scans revealed the injury was not as serious as first feared and he could now return to first-team action in time for Derby's next match.
The Rams return to Premier League action with a relegation showdown against Wigan Athletic on February 23.
"The break this weekend comes at a good time," McEveley told the Derby Evening Telegraph.
"The knee is responding well and I'm feeling good. I'm working on my fitness so I am able to step back into the team if needed.
"We will see how it goes, but the Wigan game is a realistic target."
