Derby County boss Billy Davies is set to be reunited with Eddie Lewis after the Rams had an offer for the American winger accepted by Leeds United.
The 33-year-old wideman was part of Davies' Preston North End side who were beaten in the Championship play-off final in 2005 by West Ham United.
Lewis has travelled to Derby for talks with the newly-promoted Premier League side after the two clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee.
"We have agreed an undisclosed fee for Eddie Lewis with Derby County," confirmed a statement from Leeds.
"Eddie felt that the opportunity to play in the Premier League was too good to miss out on.
"It will also help keep open his international opportunities with the USA that may have been passed over if he played regular football in League One."
Lewis has won 72 caps for the United States and joined Leeds from Preston on a free transfer two years ago.
The former San Jose player previously played in the Championship for Fulham.
