Derby County midfielder Seth Johnson says his side can take some positives from the 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Birmingham City.
Johnson felt his team had more than matched the Blues, who are much-fancied for an immediate return to the Premiership.
He told the Evening Telegraph: "We deserved to win and definitely didn't deserve to get beaten.
"I think they would have been delighted with a 0-0 draw. It just shows how we've come on.
"They are certainly one of the better squads in the Championship but if we had won, we'd have gone into the top six.
"We're not far away. If we continue to play like we did against Birmingham, we won't have any problems."
