Paul Jewell wants Derby County to learn from their mistakes and come back stronger after their relegation was finally sealed with a 2-2 draw against Fulham on Saturday.
The Rams became the first Premier League team to be relegated in the month of March after they were held to a stalemate by their fellow strugglers at Pride Park despite a brace from Argentinian striker Emanuel Villa.
But after admitting Derby were poor in the 21 winless games since he took the helm in November, Jewell has called for lessons to be learned from their brief stay in the top-flight.
He said: "I've been in charge for 20-odd games and we haven't got enough points. I think there were mitigating circumstances but I am not hiding behind anyone else and I will take the criticism.
"Whatever happens this season, we can't just write it off. We have all made mistakes and we have to learn from them and come back better from it.
"We have been embarrassed this year, there is no doubt about it, but we have got to use that as a yardstick not just to come back but to come back competitively.
"We never got off to a good start and we've been playing catch-up ever since. We haven't been good enough individually or collectively but everything we've learnt we have to use to turn things around.
"I have never been more determined to see a job through in my life and make the job successful.
"This is a brilliant club with unbelievable supporters and if I give them what they want I'll be a happy man."
