Jewell thrilled with capture

05 Jan 2008 - 14:15:24

Derby County boss Paul Jewell believes his new £2million signing Emanuel Villa has all the qualities required to be a huge success in England.

The Rams completed the signing of the Argentine on Friday from Mexican side UAG Tecos and are still awaiting international clearance before he can make his debut.

The 25-year-old is unable to play against Sheffield Wednesday in Sunday's FA Cup third round tie, but Jewell believes he will prove a value for money signing.

Villa will fill the void created by the departure of Steve Howard to Leicester City.

"This is a very exciting capture for us. I believe Emanuel is a striker of the highest quality," Jewell told the club's official website.

"He's a player I've known about for a long time and someone I was very keen to bring here.

"I've seen him play myself and his reputation in South America is very high.

"He's quick, good in the air, strong, and physical and has a good record in front of goal.

"I think he's a player the Derby fans will quickly take to. His attributes give me no doubt that he'll adapt to the English game quickly."
