Jewell hints at Ghaly stay
26 Mar 2008 - 08:48:50
Derby County manager Paul Jewell has hinted that he may try to sign Tottenham midfielder Hossam Ghaly on loan in the summer.
The 26-year-old Egypt international impressed when coming on as a substitute in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough, his ninth appearance for the Rams since moving to Pride Park on loan in January.
Jewell told the Derby Evening Telegraph: "If Hossam performs like he did at Boro, or something approaching that level between now and the end of the season, we'd be silly not to try and take him.
"I thought he was terrific. He's got brilliant feet, a great footballing brain and good technique.
"He's got all the tricks, but sometimes he should use the tricks when he needs to and not all the time.
"When he came on at Middlesbrough. he ran the game. He passed it, he did his tricks at the right time, he went past people, created opportunities and got back - he looked a really good player.
"If Hossam plays like that between now and the end of the season we'll be looking to try and keep him."
Ghaly still has two years to run on his contract at White Hart Lane.
