Jewell denies Barnes report

Derby County boss Paul Jewell has rubbished reports claiming the club has agreed to sell Giles Barnes to West Ham for £5million.

The 19-year-old winger was linked with a move to the Hammers during the summer and speculation has continued to suggest Barnes will be on his way out of Pride Park when the transfer window reopens in January.

However, Jewell is adamant that no deal has been struck with West Ham and that, as far as he is currently aware, Barnes will be remaining with the Rams.

"It's a nice Christmas present - I just wish I knew about it," he replied when asked about the reported £5million transfer.

"Maybe Santa Claus will drop the cheque down the chimney tonight?

"But I know nothing about it. What I do know for a fact is that I have not had any contact with any club about Giles Barnes.

"Until the phone rings, or somebody tells me differently, then I can't say any more about it."
