Jewell cools Barnes hopes

Derby County boss Paul Jewell has urged the club's fans not to expect too much from fit-again forward Giles Barnes.

The 20-year-old returned to action as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic, having been sidelined for nearly ten months by a serious knee injury.

However, Jewell is cautious about the prospects of Barnes making a major impact just yet.

He told the Evening Telegraph: "I don't really want to rush him for fear of knocking him back.

"We tend to put too much pressure on young players and I think that is what has happened with Giles.

"He burst on to the scene, did well and was rumoured to be going to this club and that club.

"He is only a young man, he has not had a lot of football under his belt and has had some terrible injuries, so we don't want to put too much pressure on him.

"It is important that he finds his way and comes back fit and strong, but don't expect too much of him too soon."
