Jewell admits 'pathetic' aim

Derby County manager Paul Jewell has admitted their new target of attempting to avoid relegation with the lowest points total in Premier League history is a "pretty pathetic aim".
The Rams' relegation back to the Championship after just one season in the top-flight was confirmed after last weekend's 2-2 home draw with Fulham.
But with the Pride Park club currently languishing on 11 points at the foot of the table, they are still four shy of Sunderland's record low of 15 on their way to relegation from the top-flight in 2005-06.
"We want to wipe this season from our memory. We want to learn from the mistakes we've made and try and have a sustained effort for trying to get out of the Championship next season," said Jewell.
"We will try and get as many points as possible and try and get past 15 points, which is the lowest total.
"It's a pretty pathetic aim really for the season but that's the only crumb of comfort we've got."
Meanwhile, Jewell has admitted he has found the Pride Park job harder than he anticipated after replacing Billy Davies in the hot-seat back in November.
The former Wigan Athletic boss has failed to win any of the 21 games in which he has been at the helm.
"It's been more difficult," he admitted. "I think I would have imagined us to be a little bit better than we have been and results to have been better but that's the way it is.
"I've got to learn from that, be stronger next season and take the club forward."
