Hulse efforts delight Clough

Derby County's two-goal hero Rob Hulse received the plaudits after he starred in Tuesday night's 5-3 home win against Preston North End.

Manager Nigel Clough heaped praise on his frontman who has been struggling with illness for much of the week.

Hulse was expected to miss the clash but leapt off his sick-bed to produce a superb performance.

Speaking to reporters, Clough said: "To get two goals and charge around like he did was a great effort. I think I heard somebody say he should have a stomach upset more often.

"Rob was close to missing the game. At lunchtime, we'd pencilled in Chris Porter but Rob picked up a bit in the afternoon. He said he'd start and give it a go and see how long he lasted.

"When his second goal went in and he was on a hat-trick, he lasted a bit longer."
