Howard hailed by Davies

Derby County boss Billy Davies praised the performance of striker Steve Howard after his two goals helped the Rams see off Cardiff City 3-1 at Pride Park.

The 30-year-old has now netted 17 goals since his summer arrival from Luton Town, helping Derby challenge for a return to the Premiership.

Davies told the Evening Telegraph: "He was tremendous, he's been a great leader.

"He came in here at the beginning and took a bit of stick in the first seven or eight games, but he's now proving his worth.

"He's a tremendous guy to have in the dressing room, he's got great experience and his goalscoring record speaks for itself over the last two or three years.

"He's such an asset to have in defence as well. You could see in the last five minutes how important he was and that's what you need in this division. I'm absolutely delighted for him."
