Roberts doubt for Rams

Derby will check on Gareth Roberts ahead of the visit of Bristol City.

Roberts, 35, missed the 2-1 home win over Leicester prior to the international break due to a calf injury.

The player was pencilled in to start Tuesday afternoon's development squad match against Coventry but had to withdraw shortly before kick-off after feeling his calf tighten during the warm-up.

Midfielder Craig Forsyth will continue to deputise at left-back should Roberts not be available.

Rams boss Nigel Clough is keen to extend Forsyth's loan spell from Watford. His one-month deal expires after the trip to Leeds on Monday.

Leading scorer Jamie Ward (hamstring) and midfielder Craig Bryson (groin) have come through a full week of training unscathed and will be available for selection. Both players have been nursing minor niggles in recent weeks.

Kieron Freeman, who limped off against Leicester 12 days ago, is also fully fit while fellow defender James O'Connor made his comeback from an ankle injury in the development squad this week and could be included in the squad.

Chris Martin will feature after his loan deal was extended until the end of the season and the Norwich striker is expected to partner Conor Sammon in attack.

Teenage midfielder Will Hughes (groin) and right-back John Brayford (hamstring) are making progress in their recoveries but Friday night's game will come too soon for both of them.

Bristol City will be boosted by the return of winger Paul Anderson.

There were worries that the former Liverpool man would face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after injuring his knee in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves. But it was just a knock and he is fine to feature against Derby.

Head coach Sean O'Driscoll saw three of his players depart for international duty but is hopeful they will all be available.

Albert Adomah and Lewin Nyatanga were not used by Ghana and Wales and are ready to feature, but he will assess Jamaica midfielder Marvin Elliott ahead of kick off after he travelled to San Jose for his country's clash with Costa Rica.

Striker Ryan Taylor (shoulder) has returned to training but this match comes too soon for the Rotherham man, while O'Driscoll hopes fellow forward Jon Stead (groin) might be back for the last couple of games.

City are currently four points adrift of safety in the npower Championship and rooted to the foot of the table.
