Davis surgery blow for Rams
07 Feb 2008 - 16:07:00
Derby County defender Claude Davis looks set to miss the rest of the season after being told he requires surgery to cure a persistent knee injury.
The Jamaica international missed last weekend's draw with Birmingham City after reporting fresh discomfort in the long-term problem and Rams boss Paul Jewell has revealed surgery is on the cards.
Davis had been a virtual ever-present for the struggling Pride Park club following his £3million arrival from Sheffield United in the summer.
"Claude has been playing on with an injury and I think he deserves credit for that," Jewell told the club's official website.
"He has come in for a little bit of stick lately which I don't think he would say he didn't deserve.
"In fairness to the lad he has played on in pain and needs an operation on his knee which he is going to have tomorrow (Friday).
"We wish him well, we wish him a speedy recovery, but it is another blow and almost every game I've been involved in it seems one of my defenders gets injured.
"That is most likely his season over but we'll know more after the op."
