Derby County have agreed a £3million deal for Sheffield United centre-back Claude Davis, which will be completed when the player passes a medical and secures a new work permit. The 28-year-old Trinidad & Tobago international has agreed a four-year contract with the Rams, having previously worked with County boss Billy Davies at Preston North End. Davis moved to England in the summer of 2003 to link up with the Lilywhites and moved to Bramall Lane three years later in a £2.5million deal. He played in 21 Premier League games for the Blades last season, as the south Yorkshiremen slipped straight back down to the Championship. Rams boss Davies told the club's official website: "We are delighted to be close to signing a player I know very well, having worked with him in the past. "Claude can grow in stature and experience with us and can play a very crucial role in Derby County's defensive unit this coming season."
