Davies deal in doubt after negotiations

Valuation of striker Steve Davies may scupper a move to Ipswich Town

Steve Davies may still be a Derby County player at the start of next season after negotiations with Ipswich Town have failed to decide a fee for the Rams striker.

Davies has stated he would like to leave the Rams for ‘personal reasons’. He further tweeted on Twitter that he wanted to move nearer London to be with his family.

The two clubs seem to be widely apart on their valuation of the player. Nigel Clough is said to see him around the £1m mark after a successful but injury ridden season last time around. Paul Jewell on the other hand sees Davies at around £500,000, Jewell had previously brought Davies to Pride Park, with a tribuneral fee set at £275,000 in 2008.

Derby seem to be in the driving seat in negotiations following the sale of defender Jason Shackell to Burnley for a rumoured £1.1m, they now apparently have no reason to sell Davies if the price isn’t right...
