Commitment pleases Davies

08 Oct 2007 - 09:20:17

Derby County boss Billy Davies thought his side were unlucky not to take anything from Sunday's Premier League clash at Reading.

The Rams remain rooted to the foot of the table after losing 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium, but Davies was pleased with what he thought was a fine display by his team.

He said: "I asked for an improved performance and that's what we got.

"For spells in the first half and for the majority of the second we looked very bright and caused them problems.

"It was the type of game where there was only ever going to be one goal in it, and after the break there was only one side who looked like they'd go on and get that goal - us.

"So it was a blow that Reading scored the only goal of the game but we're not too downhearted. As far as I'm concerned it was an improvement and we could have won the game.

"I'm happy with our commitment to the cause and the improvement we showed today.

"It's a marathon not a sprint and our aim after ten games, given our shortened recovery time following the play-off final and the money spent by many of the other teams in this league, was to make sure we weren't cut adrift after nine or ten games.

"We're not and we can now focus on and look forward to the Fulham match in two weeks' time."
