Clough ties up youngsters
08 Jul 2010 - 15:00:30
Derby County manager Nigel Clough has put his faith in the club's youth after five youngsters agreed to extend their deals with the Championship outfit.
Goalkeeper James Severn, defender Kallum Keane, midfielders Jeffrey Hendrick and Graham Kelly and forward Ryan Connolly have all been handed professional contracts at Pride Park and they will be available to the Rams for their league opener at Leeds United on August 7.
Speaking to reporters, Clough said: "We are pleased all five have signed professional terms with us and we look forward to seeing them develop further during the forthcoming season."
Meanwhile, winger David Martin has admitted pre-season training has proved difficult in the testing, humid conditions.
"It has been tough, and to be honest the weather hasn't helped because it has been quite warm," he said.
"That said, we all know what pre-season is like and how hard you have to work. It is a long, hard slog but you need to put the work in because it is a long hard season.
"You have to have a strong mentality to get through it and battle through the pain. There will be no moaning from me though, the quicker you get it done the quicker you can get your rest and recovery."
