Clough praises departing duo

Derby County manager Nigel Clough has praised defender Jay McEveley and winger Gary Teale, who have not been offered new contracts by the Rams.

The duo head out of Pride Park after two-and-a-half years of service, with Clough keen to make his own imprint on the County squad this summer.

He told the club's official website: "There was a great deal of thought into both decisions. It is always hard to tell good pros like Jay and Gary that offers aren't on the table for them.

"We feel as if we want a break from the past (both have been at Derby for over three years) and we want to take a different approach forwards.

"Jay has played in a number of positions this year and been a regular in the second half of the season and I don't think he will have a problem getting fixed up.

"Nor will Gary, although speaking to him he wants to have a crack at playing abroad to try something different."
