Clough doubts Vaughan return

Derby County boss Nigel Clough has all but admitted defeat in his attempts to bring Everton striker James Vaughan back to Pride Park on loan.

The 21-year-old saw a spell with the Rams earlier this season cut short by injury, but now Vaughan is back to full fitness he seems set to remain at Goodison Park for the time being.

Clough told the Evening Telegraph: "It is looking less and less likely the closer we get to the end of transfer window.

"There doesn't seem to be any movement at Everton in terms of them bringing players in, so it could well be we miss out on him.

"We talked to Everton on Friday and every week we give them a call to see if anything has changed, which it hasn't at the moment.

"We are planning without James, as much as we would like him to come back."
