Manager Nigel Clough claimed Derby County did not deserve to be on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline against Cardiff City on Wednesday night.
The Rams played their part in an entertaining game and carved out a number of opportunities, but their only success on the night was an Eddie Johnson own goal when they were already four goals behind.
"It's pretty strange. We are reasonably optimistic about the way we played, we created chances and if one had gone in during the first 15 or 20 minutes it might have been a different story," claimed Clough.
"We feel as if we had a good case for a penalty but that's the way it's going. We're just not getting that bit of luck either.
"Our last two performances have been good. We held Burnley and played well against them and tonight wasn't too bad overall, just defensively."
