Derby County's teenage midfielder Giles Barnes has been ruled out of the play-offs even though the knee injury he suffered in Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace is not as serious as was initially feared.
The 18-year-old was thought to have suffered ligament damage but a scan has revealed only tissue problems, to boss Billy Davies' delight.
The Rams manager told the club's official website: "Giles has damaged the tissue that holds the kneecap in place.
"There's no ligament damage and no operation is needed, so it will be a case of treatment and rehabilitation work.
"He should be fit for pre-season training."
