Derby County manager Paul Jewell has accepted a bid of more than £2million from an unnamed club for Wales international striker Robert Earnshaw.
Nottingham Forest have been linked with the 28-year-old who has endured a dreadful season at Pride Park.
Earnshaw was left out of the Rams' 16-man squad for Sunday's home defeat to Reading with Jewell saying: "We've had an offer that we've accepted.
"Whether it happens or not, I don't know, but that was the reason Rob was left out of the squad."
Earnshaw moved to County for a club record £3.5million last summer but started only eight matches this season.
Jewell is keen to revamp his shell-shocked squad, adding: "There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes.
"Reading and Birmingham City have been relegated and they're now going to look for a team to get them out of the Championship.
"We've known since March or even before that we were going to get relegated, so hopefully we've got a head-start.
"We've put a lot of hard work into trying to improve the squad and trying to get players out of the door. We'll have to take hits, I guess, on the players that we bought for big sums of money."
