Seth Johnson came through the youth ranks at Crewe and spent 3 years with the club before derby moved to secure his signature for a then club record fee of £3m. He made 81 appearances for the club and also became an England international, winning his first cap in 2000 against Italy. Johnson moved to Leeds for £7m in 2001 but his time at the club was ruined by injury. He made only 59 appearances over 4 years for Leeds because of 2 serious knee injuries and he was released by the club in the summer of 2005. Johnson rejoined derby again in 2005 and in his first season he suffered another knee injury and he is expected to return around March 2006.
