Derby County, under the management of the legendary Brian Clough, had finished the season with a win over Liverpool knowing that Leeds only need one point away at Wolves to win the title.
As the team set off on their summer holidays, news came through that Leeds had lost 2-1 at Molineux and the title would be heading to Derby for the first time in their history.
Famously Clough left Derby the following year and went on to manage Leeds United in 1974, for just 44 days.
