Savage at the crossroads

Robbie Savage will call time on his sometimes controversial and colourful career at the end of next season if he fails to win a new contract with current club Derby. The 35-year-old midfielder is in the final year of his contract at Pride Park and is already moving towards a lucrative career in the media. Savage is to present the BBC Radio Five show '606' on Saturday evenings during the forthcoming campaign. His aim is to try to win a new deal with the Rams but the former Wales international will hang up his boots if that is not forthcoming. Savage, currently promoting his new autobiography `Savage!', told Press Association Sport: "Will this be my last season? It all depends on how I perform this season. I want Derby to be my last club and I want to finish on a high. "I don't really want to go down the leagues and get kicked all over the place by young up-and-coming players. If I don't get another contract at Derby this season, that will probably be it but my aim is to earn a new contract here. If I don't it could possibly well be."
