Rams search for right-back cover
The Rams have no natural cover for Connolly and their search has seen them look at Stoke's Ryan Shotton and Javan Vidal at Manchester City.
Manager Nigel Clough, who has signed midfielder Jake Livermore and striker James Vaughan on loan from Tottenham and Everton respectively, said: "We are still making enquiries on a daily basis for players."
Shotton, who turns 21 next week, played for Stoke against Derby in a pre-season friendly at Pride Park in the summer. He has been on loan at Tranmere and Altrincham in recent seasons.
England Under-20 international Vidal has had loan spells at Grimsby and Aberdeen in the last 12 months.
Clough, meanwhile, admits he still has to decide which is his best pairing in the centre of defence.
A combination of injuries and illness has robbed the Rams of a consistent centre-half duo so far this season.
"We don't know which are the best two because we haven't seen them all in action together yet," said Clough.
Derby have lost their last four Championship matches and are at home to Bristol City on Saturday.
