Rams miss out on Wood

Derby target Chris Wood has joined npower Championship rivals Barnsley on a three-month loan from West Brom. The Rams were keen to bring the 18-year-old striker to Pride Park and agreed a deal to do so before the close of last month`s transfer window. However, injuries to Albion forwards Roman Bednar and Ishmael Miller scuppered the move. Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo said: `"Woodsy is a very promising talent but with the recent acquisitions of Peter Odemwingie and Marc-Antoine Fortuni, and with Roman Bednar, Simon Cox and Ishmael Miller also on our books, he is not getting the game time he needs at this stage of his career. "We feel it is best for his footballing education that he goes out on loan and gets some first-team games under his belt. "He will hopefully get those in the Championship at Barnsley, who are an excellent footballing side, and we will be closely monitoring his progress."
