Rams in for three or four players

Nigel Clough has stated he doesn't want many players this closed season to improve the Rams squad

Derby County are not looking to bring in any more than three or four  new faces for the coming season despite losing Republic of Ireland International Paul Green when his contract expires, Striker Chris Maguire and Club Captain Shaun Barker (through injury).

Nigel Clough believes he has a good enough squad to try adding just a few players during what is now left of the closed season. It is thought Clough will concentrate on a new striker after selling Chris Maguire following a season in which he failed to establish a place in the Rams first team squad or impress Clough enough for him to get a chance this season. Rumours of the sale of Steve Davies and Theo Robinson may hasten Cloughs search or a replacement striker as the season approaches.

“Just a few tweaks” is what is needed to the squad according to Nigel Clough and is looking to bring through some of the talented youngsters at the club as well as the three or four transfers into the club..

It is hoped the new ‘blend’ of players for the 2012-13 season will be more consistent than the last. After a stunning start to last season which saw the Rams win their first four league games and sitting second in the Championship behind eventually promoted Southampton , the Rams faded at times throughout the season but finished a creditable 12th in the table.

We watch with interest the comings and goings at Pride Park in the next few weeks...
