Derby County lose 2-1 to Crewe Alexandra in tonights pre-season friendly Derby County travelled to Crewe for another pre-season friendly. A good start was enjoyed by the Rams when after Chris Riggott scored. Riggott trying to prove he is worth a contract this season was understandably ecstatic. Byron Moore levelled for the home side just minutes later and the Crewe front men seem to be able to carve the Rams defence open at will. Derby reply and begin to send attack after attack at Crewe, with Maguire unlucky as his shot hit’s a post. The first half ends 1-1, with both sides having their fair share of the attacking during the half. Derby not for the first time miss the starting gate as the second half begins and allow Crewe to take the lead with a spectacular 30 yard strike from Danney Shelley. The Rams try to get back into the game by taking off Nathan Tyson and Jamie Ward and sending on Callam Ball and Theo Robinson. Midway through the second period and Derby make another change to try to pull back the goal they trail by. This time Lee Croft comes on for Conor Doyle. With time running out Derby press for a leveller but it is very slow in coming. Ben Davies has a free kick saved yet again by an inspired Crewe keeper, Philips. The Rams are finally derailed by the Railwaymen by two goals to one, but a good work out in the build up to the 2011-12 Championship season... Crewe: Phillips, Davis, Tootle, Artell, Hogg, Murphy, Bell, Westwood, Moore, Shelley, Miller Derby County: Fielding, Brayford, Roberts, Pearson, Riggott, Anderson, Davies, Doyle, Tyson, Ward, Maguire Attendance 2063.
