Rams boss ponders his options

The Rams head off to the South West on Tuesday where they will play Yeovil that evening before games against Torquay on Thursday and Exeter on Saturday. Clough played a central midfield trio of Robbie Savage, Paul Green and Stephen Pearson as his side lost 2-1 at Chesterfield in the Derbyshire FA Centenary Cup at the weekend. Despite the defeat, Clough felt the system worked well and he plans further experiments with it before the Championship campaign starts on August 8. "There were a few teams that played that way in the Championship last season," said Clough. "The last thing we want to be is negative and playing that way means that the wide men have more of a licence to get forward and certainly one of the midfield central three can also get forward and support the striker. "It worked very well with the players we put in there (against Chesterfield) and also with Ben Pringle when he came on for Paul Green and it is something I think we can do. The full-backs can also join in and it is something we will continue to look at over the next few weeks."
