27 July 2010 22:25
Derby County welcomed Premiership Stoke to Pride Park in the first of their two home pre-season friendlies and defeated the Potters with the only goal of the game The Rams started their last two friendlies tonight with a fine victory over Premiership Stoke City. A goal after just six minutes by Chris Porter from close range after a pin-point cross from the left, decided the contest.Derby didn't look to be out of their depth against the Stoke side and kept the visitors down to a few half chances during the entire game. All in all there was signs that Derby County may have a better season on the field than last term. With luck and no further injuries the Rams may surprise a few people during the 2010-11 season. The Pride Park Stadium had a fresh new paint job inside the ground and the re-laid pitched looked to be in fine form for the coming season. Rammie seemed to have lost height and gained a few pounds during his summer rest and the re-located Barmy Army were in fine voice throughout the entire game. The food and drink at the stadium had some good news and some bad. First the bad news a bottle of Fanta now costs an amazing £2, a stunning price when an major supermarket offers the same soft drink at 2 for £1.80. An even more concerning development saw several people buy the over priced fizzy drink, only to find it had a 'best before date of December 2009, which means these bottles have been out of date for nearly 8 months. Surely someone from Delaware should have checked this at some point before the end of last season and ideally before last Christmas..! Even when the out of date bottles were pointed out to operatives behind the counters, bottles continued to be sold with the BBD of December 2009.The good news for those fans who enjoy a pint (although goodness knows how long that has been at the ground) is that an 'early bird' drink, taken before 45 minutes from kick-off is priced at £5 for two pints...
