Pitman double downs Rams

Brett Pitman maintained his recent good run in front of goal as in-form Bristol City continued to climb away from the npower Championship relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over Derby. Pitman opened his account for City three weeks ago and he followed that up with a brace at Ashton Gate to help Keith Millen's side to successive wins for the first time this season. Derby's slump continued with a fourth defeat in five league games, although Rams boss Nigel Clough will point to an incident at the end of the first half involving David James. The former England keeper brought down Kris Commons when Derby's leading scorer was through one-on-one but referee Darren Sheldrake opted not to dismiss the fortunate City stopper. Clough was incensed by the incident and his mood would not have improved when Derby fell behind just three minutes after the restart. Albert Adomah put the ball across the face of goal from the right and Pitman tapped in at the far post, before he slid the ball through for Pitman to beat Stephen Bywater again in the 68th minute.
