A thrilling Derby comeback ensured FA Cup pandemonium on the banks of the Trent last night and sealed the legend of another manager named Clough at this famousold ground.[LNB]With his side trailing 2-0 after just 14 minutes, Nigel Clough masterminded a revival reminiscent of the feats of his father Brian on a return to the City Ground which firsttugged the heartstrings and then defied belief. [LNB] Cheeky boy: 's Kris Commons celebrates his winning goal for Derby[LNB] Derby now find themselves hosting Manchester United in a cup competition for thesecond time this season. For Forest, there is only deep embarrassment at losing in such a manner to their bitter rivals from the other end of the A52 — a road that hasbeen formally christened Brian Clough Way. [LNB]It will have been a road happily travelled by the 4,600 Derby fans following a matchthat crackled from the first whistle, thrilling a fired-up capacity crowd whose partisansupport was heightened by the knowledge that each manager had history with theopposing club.[LNB]Not only is Nigel the son of Brian, but he wore the red shirt of Forest for nine seasons and is the second highest goalscorer in the club's storied history. [LNB]Typically, he limited himself to a quick clap of his hands to the Forest crowd as he emerged from the tunnel to be lit up by a hail of flashlights. [LNB]And after this most memorable of triumphs, Clough sent his assistant Gary Crosby, another former Forest player, to attend the post-match press conference.[LNB]Crosby said cryptically: 'You know the nature of the man. He is incredibly pleased withthe result tonight, but he doesn't want to be seen to be taking any glory from itwhatsoever. [LNB]Unlucky son: Kris Commons consoles Forest's Matt Thornhill after their epic FA Cup tie[LNB] 'He just asked me to do the press and I said: 'Yes.'' [LNB]There was no hint of an extraordinary outcome when Forest took the lead inside 65 seconds. A corner led to an exchange of passes between Chris Cohen and Matt Thornhill before Cohen drove inside and let fly with a searing shot which flew into the net.[LNB]When a second goal arrived and barely 14 minutes had ticked on to the clock, a night of celebration among the home fans was suddenly in full swing. Prematurely as it transpired, for there was much gnashing of teeth and gnarling of stomachs to endure in a fixture which can never be straightforward.[LNB]Barely had the crowd retaken their seats from a Lewis McGugan volley thudding intothe arms of Derby keeper Stephen Bywater than Nathan Tyson latched on to an exquisite pass from Cohen and poked the ball away from Bywater before being felled.[LNB]Given that the striker had technically diverted the ball away from goal, even thoughhe could still have steered it into an empty net, referee Chris Foy contented himself with showing the keeper a yellow card. [LNB]However, Bywater could only flail helplessly as Tyson's penalty rocketed beyond him.Derby's response was, if not immediate, then decisive. [LNB]Midway through the half, Kris Commons danced his way into the area before producing a smart save from keeper Paul Smith. Within seconds, JamesMcEveley sent a long-range effort fizzing past Smith's post.[LNB]Confidence restored, they reduced their deficit with stunning simplicity on 27 minutes.Gary Teale floated a cross into the area, leaving an unmarked Rob Hulse to guidehome an effortless header. [LNB]The party was put on hold as haunting thoughts began to seep into Forest minds. They might have been allayed four minutes before the break when McGugan tumbled in the box, only for the penalty appeals to be stifled by a booking for the midfielder for diving.[LNB]It appeared inevitable that Derby would bring the scores level. They did, and more, in asecond half of utter domination. [LNB]On the hour, Paul Green rose to head home another Teale cross in a carbon-copy ofthe visitors' first goal. [LNB]Rather than sit back, Derby ploughed forward in search of another goal. Commons drove against a post in the 73rd minute and within a minute the former Forest player had picked up possession again and this time sent in an effort which took a deflection as it arched beyond Smith.[LNB] Blackburn 2 Sunderland 1: Benni to the rescue[LNB]Villa 3 Doncaster 1: Carew rips heart out of Rovers[LNB]ITV miss Everton's winning goal in Mersey derby to show Tic Tacs advert[LNB][LNB]Forest, for whom Garath McCleary had an effort hacked off the line, ought to haveforced extra-time in a pulsating finish. [LNB]Wes Morgan, sent upfield as an emergency striker, picked out teenage substitute MarkByrne but, with only Bywater to beat, the youngster froze and shot wide.[LNB]Davies said: 'It was naivety that let in their first two goals but the players can be proudof what they've done tonight. It was a fantastic game.'[LNB] NOTTINGHAM FOREST (4-4-2): Smith 6; Chambers 6, Morgan 5, Breckin 5, Wilson 6; Thornhill 6, Perch 5 (Byrne 70min, 6), McGugan 7, McCleary 6 (Heath 81); Cohen 8, Tyson 7 (Newbold 85).
