Neilson given trial in Derby draw

Derby County gave a run-out to Cambridge trialist Scott Neilson, but had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Torquay United. It was the Rams' second game on their pre-season tour of the West Country and manager Nigel Clough made eight changes from Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Yeovil. Jay McEveley, Robbie Savage and Luke Varney were the only survivors from the starting XI against The Glovers. Derby's final game of their three-match tour is against Exeter on Saturday. Winger Neilson featured in a midfield which included Savage as well as Steven Davies and Ben Pringle. Neilson, who earlier this month had a trial with Norwich, played for 75 minutes before being replaced by Lee Croft.
