Dean Leacock's header midway through the first half got Derby's pre-season campaign off to a winning start as the Rams beat neighbours Burton 1-0.
The defender is still waiting for his first first-team goal since joining the Rams but he powered home a Kris Commons cross to score the only goal of the game at the Pirelli Stadium.
Summer signings John Brayford, David Martin and James Bailey all started the match while boss Nigel Clough handed opportunities to trialists Amari Morgan-Smith and Conor Doyle.
