Harry Redknapp is in talks with Derby over an advisory role until the end of the season, the Sky Bet Championship club have announced.

The former West Ham and Tottenham manager would move to the iPro Stadium to aid rookie boss Darren Wassall.

Head coach Wassall last month replaced the sacked Paul Clement for the rest of the campaign, and has lost three of his seven league games in charge.

A statement read: "Derby County can confirm that discussions have been held with Harry Redknapp regarding the possibility of working in an advisory role until the end of the season.

"This would potentially provide support to Darren Wassall and the rest of the coaching team."

Derby are fifth in the Championship but blew a 3-0 lead in the last seven minutes at Rotherham on Saturday to draw 3-3.

Wassall replaced Clement - who lasted just seven months - with the Rams just five points off top spot but they are now six points off the automatic promotion places.

Redknapp's last role in club management was at QPR. He left Loftus Road in February 2015 citing his need to have knee replacement surgery.

He won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008 and guided Tottenham into the Champions League for the first time in 2010.
