"Every day there is another story about a club that gets ahead of itself.
"We won't do that but that doesn't mean we are not competitive. We will be and will get back to the Premier League."
Glick added: "But it is about being disciplined and patient and we have a manager [Nigel Clough] who exemplifies that.
"We have been very clear from the beginning. We want to sort out the finances of the club, keep the quality players and get the players out who aren't performing and bring other quality players in.
"We are bringing the wage bill down to a sustainable level in the Championship.
"We continue to run one of the larger wage bills in this league so we are disappointed we are in 18th but I think you could point to a lot of reasons why we are in 18th place and I would start with the injuries that crippled us in the first half of the season
"We know we have a lot of talent in this squad and we know we have a hungry squad with ambition.
"There are some great characters who we have just signed extensions with - players like Stephen Pearson, Paul Green, Dean Leacock, players that are new that we have bought in like Shaun Barker and Chris Porter who will be mainstays and we will be adding to players like that.
"But we will take the wage bill down and we shouldn't be afraid of that because it is important that clubs have a sustainable, balanced approach to what they are doing and don't get over their heads."
Glick also told BBC Radio Derby that the Rams are prepared to spend big money in the summer even though they continue to look to cut the wage bill.
It's about getting the right players at the right value and if that means spending transfer fees the size of Shaun Barker's, or in excess, then we are prepared to do that Derby chief executive Tom Glick "It's about making the right choices with players and the best example I can think of is Shaun Barker," Glick said of the £1m summer signing from Blackpool.
"He is the type of signing Nigel and his team will be looking to make this summer.
"We want solid guys, with some of the best years of their careers ahead of them who want to come here for the right reasons.
"We will be looking for a couple of Shaun Barkers who can come in and play an immediate role in August as well as be with us for a number of years and help to take the club back to the Premier League.
"We will be looking to get good value. We got great value in Shaun and Nigel has the green light to do that.
"It's about getting the right players in the right positions and getting them at the right value, and if that means spending transfer fees the size of Shaun Barker's, or in excess of that, then we are prepared to do that."
